The Giants In Baseball
Tuesday, July 6th, 2010To date, a definite conclusion on where and how Baseball originated is yet to be made. However, there are several theories on where the sport came from. They said that there are several games that were used as inspiration to develop baseball: Rounders, Lapta, Town Ball and Cricket.
Lapta is a Russian game that is very similar to baseball and started in the 14th century. It is played with two teams with five to ten members each. It also has a pitcher and a batter. The objective is for the batter to hit the ball and be able to run to the opposite side of the track and back before the ball hits him. The difference lies in the bases. Lapta only has two points.
Hank Aaron got a minimum of 30 home runs per season for 15 years. He actually has more homeruns than Babe Ruth, he had 755. Many will contend that he is a better player than Babe Ruth but others will say that if there is anyone out there, it is Joe DiMaggio. DiMaggio holds the longest winning streak. He was hitting 56 games to victory. He was also a member of the all star in each year he played.
Lou Gehrig career was cut short due to a neurological condition. However, he is known for his 2,130 consecutive games. The only player to complete that streak to date. That is a clear indication of the dedication he has for the game and if only for that, I would say he truly is one of the best ever to have played the sports. He played for the Yankees his entire life and won the MVP twice and the Triple Crown once.
Ted Williams is perhaps the best hitter ever. He spent his whole career with the Red Sox. Like Gehrig, he won the MVP and the Triple Crown. But he did it twice.
There are many more players out there who may be considered the best ones and I’m sure that there are more waiting in the wings, for now these top 5 are the ones that will undoubtedly make the list.
