Plyometric training is the little known secret that competitive athletes do not want you to know about, since it gives them an enormous advantage over their competitors. If you desire to increase your speed and explosiveness in movement, plyometric exercises are one of the few that are very effective. Even those who are not competitive athletes can benefit from plyometrics and greatly enhance their physical conditioning.

Plyometric training entails jumping in order to develop not only muscle strength, but speed and explosiveness. Weight training will strengthen your legs, but does little to develop the quick twitch muscles needed for explosiveness and quickness. Plyometric exercises also develops other muscles besides the legs needed to jump higher.

Plyometric exercises focuses typically on the development of quick twitch muscles which are important for quickness and explosive movements. Competitive athletes are gaining enormous advantages by applying plyometric training exercises in their workouts.

There is a variety of exercises you can perform, jumping on and off an sturdy object is one example. This exercise can be repeated over and over again, but the purpose is to develop explosive power, and not endurance. Therefore, each rep or jump should attempt to jump as high as you can. As soon as your jump max is starting to decline because of fatigue, it is time to stop that exercise.

Depending on your goal or your physical abilities, you can adjust you plyometric exercise workout. For the novice athlete, perhaps the number of reps are less and with less intensity. But to fully benefit from plyometric training, each rep should be done with intensity and at the maximum effort.

Pay attention to your body when you exercise. If you begin to experience achy knees or sore muscles, take a break. By allowing your body to recuperate, your plyometric training will more likely be safe and effective.

Plyometrics is one of the keys in learning how to jump higher. Practice these tips, and you will increase your vertical jump drastically.

Effective Mascot Design Plays an Important Role on Advertising

Saturday, July 18th, 2009
by Amy Nutt

If you want to launch an effective advertising campaign, then you need a few very important things. You need to have a good name for your company that is memorable and sticks in people’s minds. You need to have a logo that fits in with the style and attitude of your business. Having a nice, catchy slogan or catchphrase is also a big plus. Now, you also have the potential to add a mascot to your company’s overall identity. While this doesn’t work for every situation, a well-designed mascot can really take an ad campaign to the next level.

There are several factors that go into designing the perfect mascot. The first aspect of any mascot is personality. By having a unique personality, a mascot provides your company with another way to separate itself from its competitors. The mascot’s style and personality should be a reflection of your company’s own, and should speak to the audience that you’re trying to attract.

Along the same lines, a mascot should be a representative of the company’s overall values and goals. These values should be reflected in the way the character looks and carries itself. Furthermore, if the character is more than just part of your logo and has a ’speaking role’ in your advertising, then the characters voice and actions should reflect the company’s strong points.

Designing a mascot can give a business some real creative flexibility. You want a mascot that is unique enough that it’s going to jump out at people and make them remember. Some of the most successful mascots have been ones that pretty much defy description and are a bit outlandish. You don’t necessarily have to go that route, but a generic talking animal usually isn’t going to interest people very much.

When designing a mascot, you should always design it as if it is going to be part of your company, and your advertising, forever. You want a design that is timeless and has room to grow alongside your company. Don’t be afraid to change and ‘upgrade’ your mascot to keep up with the times ‘ so long as the mascot ultimately stays true to what it originally stood for.

With all that said, it’s important to think globally for your mascot design. We live in a very politically correct world, and many mascots have basically been forced into retirement because some element of their design was deemed offensive. For the most part it is not too difficult to avoid causing offense with your mascot, but just in case, it always pays off to do a little extra research.

Also, again, remember that not every company really needs a mascot. If your company is all about hard-lined professionalism, then a mascot will just seem at odds with what you’re trying to do. For the rest of the business out there, however, mascots are great ways to really take a brand to the next level and have it become a real cultural landmark.

Increase Vertical Jump Training

Before Training To Increase Your Vertical Jump, Here Are Some Prerequisites.

Before you attempt to start your training exercises to increase your vertical, these three steps are necessary. They can be summarized as one, Set Realistic but Challenging Goals, two, Design a workout plan, and three, Take Action on what you have planned. In order to see real change or improvement in anything, these steps are a great place to start.

Set Realistic Challenging and Measurable Specific Goals

While you lay out your goals, they need to follow specified, measurable, real and ambitious. For some, this could constitute a sound goal. When determining goals, bear in mind your current fitness level, and how much time you’re prepared to spend in your training. For example: I want to increase my vertical leap by 10″ in 12 weeks. As you are able to see, this is precise, the advancement can be evaluated, and may be both pragmatic and stimulating for a lot of athletes. Some jocks who already have a good fitness level may set a more ambitious goal like doubling their vertical jump in 10 weeks. Some second-rate illustrations could be: I prefer to leap higher, I would like to slam dunk a basketball. Although slam-dunking is great incentive to keep conditioning, it’s advisable to adjust your goals to be specific and measurable.

For instance, if you recognise you’re 9″ from touching the rim, your goal had better constitute maximizing your vertical by 14″ to insure you will be able to dunk. You will be able to evaluate this progress, and accomplishing this goal results in dunking.

Design A Workout Plan

In future lessons, I will give you ideas on setting up a good plan. For now, you just need to know some kind of plan is required. Successful people from all walks of life have this in common; they all had a plan or strategy in mind to follow. It is best to have your plan written down and reviewed regularly, so you can keep focused on what your created plan.

Carry out Your produced program

Make no excuses once you have your plan. Real change comes with sacrifice and perseverance. It is also helpful to have someone come along aside you as an accountability partner. Even though training may get difficult, it will be worth it once you accomplish your goals.

For best results, keep track of your initial performance, workout statistics and on-going performance. With this information you can make the decision to alter your plan to make it easier or harder based on your initial goal constraints and how you are coming along in accomplishing it.

I hope you realize the importance of setting goals, writing them down, making a plan, and then taking action until you reach your goals. For those in a position to take it to the next level and drastically increase their vertical, go to Jump Manual, an online vertical training program.

You Cant Succeed On Your Own!

Baseball is the best sport that was ever invented! Need I write more? Growing up I was obsessed with the game of Baseball. I loved to pitch and took every opportunity I could to practice. In fact, I became so involved with Baseball that my parents became a little concerned that I was spending too much time focusing on it. My parents and other coaches would try to get me involved in other sports. But Baseball was, and still is, the game for me.

When I was involved in little league baseball I pitched the majority of the time. In my mind, pitching was the only thing worth pursuing and it consumed the majority of my time. I dont regret a minute of it because of what I do for a living now. I was simply intrigued by every aspect of the game. Particularly pitching, where, at the early age of 10 I dedicated a lot of my time learning about pitching mechanics and pitching specific workout routines.

When I began Junior High, the scariest years of all of our lives, I began to study everything I could get my hands on about how to play Baseball. One of the books I picked up was Nolan Ryans Pitchers Bible. Nolan was my idol. I began studying the way he worked out and began to understand more and more how a pitcher should throw and how they workout. That summer I must have done every pitching specific workout that existed. I learned a great deal!

I mention this because it is so vital that any pitcher have a regular workout routine that includes full body workouts, aerobic and anaerobic work, pitching specific workouts, sprinting and running and more. Pitchers are all around athletes and it takes some good time management skills to ensure that you get in all of the necessary workouts required to perform at peak performance. That is why you need a workout partner. You need to find someone that will push you and keep you on pace to reach all of your goals as a pitcher. You will also need to find someone that will throw with you regularly.

All of these workouts are great. As an athlete you need to make sure that you have great time management skills to ensure you fit all of these workouts in. It can be quite overwhelming if you look at what you have to do to compete at the highest levels. However, the best advice I can give anyone is to find a workout partner to help motivate and inspire you to greatness. All successful pitchers have mentors. Find one!

Every pitcher should have a regular workout program. However, you have to pick and choose which workouts are going to be best for you or you will find yourself being overwhelmed with all you have to accomplish. Make sure when you get involved with a new workout program you find a great workout partner. A great partner will be there for you to help you be consistent with your workouts and ensure you are on pace to reach your goals.

A training partner will keep you motivated to keep you going when times get tough. When you dont want to wake up early one day, your partner will be there to make sure you do. Having a workout partner also keeps the competitive spirit alive within you. They also ensure that you are doing all of your exercises correctly. Make sure you pick the right partner that will motivate and inspire you to greatness out on the mound.

Learn a Curveball

Monday, July 13th, 2009
by Nate Barnett

One of the most staple pitches for any serious pitcher is the curveball. Its important to make sure your pitching mechanics are correct prior to learning a curveball. But, once you have had some training on your technique, this pitch should be at the top of your list to learn.

To grip the Curveball, place your index and ring finger on the seams opposite of the thumb. The thumb and middle finger split the baseball in half. With the curveball grip you apply some pressure on your thumb and middle fingers. Your index finger should simply rest on the ball next to the middle finger.

To get the right spin off the baseball, you may consider learning this pitch by taking your index finger off of the baseball to make sure that you do not apply too much pressure with it. Too much pressure by the index finger will cause you to have poor release with the baseball and not get the desired curve effect.

Now that you have a basic understanding of how to throw a curveball, its important that you do not throw this pitch too much until you have proper pitching mechanics intact. First, if you have poor pitching mechanics, youll end up tipping the batter off that you are throwing a curveball and not a fastball. Secondly, with a lack of understanding you may vary your arm speed with a curveball as opposed to a fastball. This is a big no no. The only thing that changes is your wrist and forearm angles. Do not snap your wrist upon release of a curveball, instead, let the ball roll off the index finger. The will work efficiently if the outer side of your hand is facing the hitting at release.

Young pitchers need to be monitored closely as to how many curveballs are thrown each game. Coaches and parents should make sure that their athletes throw no more than 15%-20% curveballs. If your young pitcher begins to have some early success with the curveball, he may tend to want to throw the pitch more. For the sake of his arm, prevent this from happening by regulating his curveball pitch count.

Learn How To Jump Higher

by Benjamin Mihajlov

If you really want to jump higher then you have to become more knowledgeable about the subject. Better vertical jumps means your game can improve dramatically in whatever sport you play. However, it doesn’t take an athlete to work on these exercises. To be honest, as long as you want to build leg strength and power, we suggest everyone giving it a try.

Any jump training program must include strength building. Even though there is many different ways to increase strength, increased jumping abilities is usually the result. Your workouts should focus on weight training specifically for the lower part of your body.

If you can train your muscles correctly, it all starts with understanding how they work. If you do this you’ll be able to get more power out of your legs and gain jumping abilities.

There are many ways to go about doing it like running, jogging, and biking, but those aren’t the only ways to work the body. We do suggest that you start by adding a few squats, lunges, and calf raises to your program. However, in the beginning stages you may want to do something in the comfort of your own home to get you started. Try sitting in a seated position and pop up with your legs. You will strengthen them like crazy the more you do it.

If you want to increase your success rate, find a person to do the training with you. Partners can encourage consistent and proper form, and accelerate leg strength without the risk of injury. If a partner is not possible, just make sure you do the weight training exercises consistently and safely.

Taking a multi-faceted approach in developing muscles is more beneficial than concentrating on just one muscle. Squats, for example, develops a variety of muscles resulting in greater vertical jumping.

In order to jump higher, many other factors are necessary besides exercises. Good nutrition is vital in repairing and providing growth to your muscles. Your diet should consist of protein, carbohydrates, and good fat. The nutrients in a good healthy diet will not only help you jump higher, but provide you with great energy and health.

Another important factor is understanding plyometrics. This is your jump training and if you don’t know what it is you won’t get the same results. So make sure the program you choose explain everything about it.

Another factor that enhances your vertical jump is applying proper jumping techniques. If you have the proper form in jumping, you can easily gain two to four inches on your jumping.
