Discover The Gymnastics San Antonio

Does your child seem to prefer tumbling to the other side of the room rather than walking? Do you see him doing handsprings and cartwheels? Is your teenager interested in joining the tryouts for the school cheer leading team next year? Perhaps you should consider having your child try gymnastics San Antonio style this year.

Not every kid in the block can do cartwheels. Not every kid shows interest in cheer leading. So if you have a child who shows interest in gymnastics, why not give your hundred percent all out support? It can be a fun way to introduce your child to important values such as patience and perseverance.

A child can already be introduced to the exciting world of gymnastics as soon as he starts to walk. Initially, motor skills and hand and eye coordination are developed. As soon as the child is able to learn additional skills, he is taught the basics of gymnastics. You see him do handstands more and more, which will eventually evolve into front and back walkovers. As he progresses, more challenging skills such as front pike somersaults will be taught. For sure, you will be just as proud as the parents of those who represent the country when you first see your child effortlessly tossing and flipping in the air.

There are seven types of gymnastics. The Women and Mens Artistic Gymnastics are the most common; and then Trampoline, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Tumbling, Acrobatic and Group Gymnastics.

Of the seven types of gymnastics, the most common are the two Artistic Gymnastics. Acrobatic Gymnastics is basically what you see during cheering competitions. There are no apparatuses used. The gymnasts do handstands and balances on each other; and also throw and catch one another. Rhythmic Gymnastics allows one to showcase not only his or her talent in gymnastics but talents in ballet and theatrical dance as well. If your child loves tossing and turning in the air, you may want to let him eventually master the Trampoline and Tumbling.

There are many gymnastics schools in San Antonio. You may want to drop by one of them on your way home from work; or bring your child along this coming weekend. There are schools that allow parent and child have back to back classes if you prefer to workout instead of just wait for your child.

Before deciding where to enroll, check out the facilities. Get a trial class. This way, you get a feel of the place. You can also check how the toddler likes his teacher. If the school or center does not offer trial classes for free, find another center. In case you have a mobile office, look for a gym that has free WiFi. Hourly rates for open gym are from $2 to 4$. This is important because you child will have to practice.

If you want your kid to get a feel of gymnastics San Antonio is a good place to start. Summer camps are also a fun way to introduce your child to the world of gymnastics. And even if he does not choose to pursue it professionally, a few added skills will not hurt. In fact, your child will benefit from increased self confidence, stronger physical and emotional foundation, and discipline; not to mention camaraderie and sportsmanship.

Do your six year olds refer to tumble their way to almost every corner in the house? Or have they been showing off cartwheels which you never even taught them in the first place? Has your thirteen year old recently expressed interest in joining the next school cheer leading tryouts? If you feel that, it is time you introduce your kid to gymnastics San Antonio has a lot to offer.

Not every kid in the block can do cartwheels. Not every kid shows interest in cheer leading. Acrobatic Gymnastics and Rhythmic Gymnastics are the more different ones compared to the other forms of gymnastics. They are not what first come to mind when the word gymnastics is heard. There are no bars or vaults involved in their routines. Acrobatic gymnasts rely solely on themselves to show off their strength and flawless communication whenever they throw and catch each other in the air. In comparison, Rhythmic Gymnastics will make you hold your breath in awe as you watch them move about in amazing synchronization with one another.

Design A Comfortable Mascot Costume

Monday, November 23rd, 2009
by Adriana Noton

When you hear the word “mascot”, most of us think about a sporting event and that funny big chicken walking around looking silly. A person wearing a mascot costume is seen in most stadiums during a game, but few of us have thought about what goes into designing and making that costume. How do you design comfortable custom mascots?

Mascots have become so common, they even have a following. Mascots have fans that wait for them to come on the field or stage and cheer when they appear. Many teams and schools are identified by their mascot. When you see a particular mascot dressed in his distinctive costume, you think of the team or school he represents.

Many mascots are for entertainment value. They can appear before the game or during a break, like halftime, to entertain the audience. Many people will attend a game or event just to see what the mascot will be doing that day. When a game seems to be going slowly or dragging, the mascot can appear making everyone attending happy and having fun again. They are funny and fans remember their antics long after the event.

The mascot is usually silly and seems to be moving around with ease; but he or she can be wearing a heavy costume that, sometimes, may have little ventilation. Most of us forget that there is a person inside the costume. The person wearing the costume must be taken into consideration when the mascot’s outfit is constructed.

Professional team’s budgets allow them to spend more on their mascot’s costume so many of them may be wearing a costume that is made with lighter material and the person is able to breathe. The way the mascot costume is made has a lot to do with how easily the person moves around and how long the person can wear the costume. When a team or organization is planning to employee someone to wear the mascot costume, agility and strength of the person wearing the costume is a prerequisite for the job.

There are some concerns before constructing a new costume. The climate where the costume will be worn should be taken into consideration. If the weather is warm, lighter material should be used. If the weather is warm and turns cold, the costume will need to have ways to remove or add material to keep the person inside warm or cool.

Fiberglass can be used to construct the head because it is light. Visibility from inside the head will be important to the design. If the person wearing the costume has to move around, he will need good visibility for safety.

The body of the suit can be sewn with various materials, such as polyester, cotton, or denim. A small battery operated fan is often built into the body of the suit to keep the person wearing the custom cool during warmer months. If the body of the suit is constructed loosely, the person will get less warm.

If you are having someone off site design the mascot costume, agree on a cost that includes design and material. When you find someone to design it, get a guarantee that it will be an original. You will want your organization to have a mascot costume that is unique to your organization. When the costume is finished, you will want to own all rights to the design. Ask the designer, or person constructing the costume, to incorporate the colors of your organization in the fabric of the costume. The colors on the costume will be as identifiable as the mascot itself.

Materials you will need, if you are planning to design and construct the costume yourself, are the same as you would use for any sewing project. Other considerations will be to construct the suit large enough for air to pass around the person wearing the suit; polyester fill to make the costume look larger than life; Velcro for ease in getting in and out of the costume; and cardboard or fiberglass for the head.

Most mascot costumes can only be worn for a maximum of 40 minutes at a time. The person inside the suit should be hydrated before putting it on. Mascots should be accompanied with another person as a guide or handler. More than one person may be needed, depending on the size the crowd and the event.

Athletes Embrace The Infrared Sauna

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009
by Benjamin Andrews

The many benefits of infrared ray saunas have been known by athletes for years. The results come from regular use of these infrared saunas. Athletes see increased physical performance, greater endurance and heightened levels of tolerance for anaerobic workouts.

Infrared saunas are an excellent source of a low impact cardiovascular workout. “Many of us who run do so to place a demand on our cardiovascular system, not to build big leg muscles. Regular use of indoor saunas may impact a similar stress on the cardiovascular system, and its regular use may be as effective, as a means of cardiovascular conditioning and burning of calories, as regular exercise.” -American Medical Association

A detailed report in JAMA explains that infrared saunas burn around 500 calories per sauna session on average, making an infrared sauna a great method to born calories, get rid of fat cells and stimulate the metabolism. Although extremely effective, infrared saunas should not be considered a 100% replacement for standard cardiovascular workouts. They are extremely useful as a warm-up, post work out therapy and method to stay fit while your body heals from injury.

For every gram of transpiration we sweat off we burn 0.586 calories (Guyton’s Textbook of medical Physiology). An athlete can measure how many calories he/she is burning during a given infrared sauna session my measuring their sweat. On average, a human will sweat off half a liter of transpiration during a session, which is equal to 1,000 grams of sweat or 500 calories.

The relaxing effect that deep penetrating infrared heat has on tired, sore or damaged athlete muscles is manifold. The blood vessel dilation and increased circulation brought on by the heat will help tired muscles repair and strengthen themselves more efficiently. Also, the loosening of the muscles, reduction in lactic acids and decreased swelling that are induced by the heat will ease the pain of tight or worn muscles.

For athletes who want a thorough pre-workout warm-up to increase flexibility and prevent injury, a FIR sauna is the ideal “heat therapy room.” When tissues are warmed to 112 degrees Fahrenheit and then stretched, they retain roughly 0.5-0.9% of their length indefinitely. This means that with twenty sessions of stretching in conjunction with infrared heat, an athlete can produce a 10-18% increase in tissue length. (Justus F Lehmann M.D., Williams and Wilkins, Therapeutic Heat and Cold, 4th edition.)

Infrared heat also works in to the ailing joints of an athlete. By relaxing the muscles around the joints, less pressure and strain is put on the area. The joints are notoriously problematic for lacking circulation. The increased circulation coupled with the relaxed surrounding muscles improves the ability of blood flow in to joints which will greatly enhance the speed of healing and repair.

Infrared ray saunas are very useful for treating more serious injuries such as sprains. So long as the standard treatments of cold and compressions are first administered an athlete can then use the deep penetrating heat of the sauna to ease the pain and speed the recovery.

The many benefits athletes get out of using infrared ray saunas continues to add to their popularity. No matter the intensity of your work out, we can be happy to have an infrared sauna to relax in.

Mascots have become a fixture at sporting events around the world. Many of the mascots associated with professional sports teams have even earned their own fan bases. They are as well known for their often outlandish costumes as they are for their antics. In fact the role of the mascot has evolved from a source of good luck to entertainment for sports fans.

Aside from taking the initial measurements, the head of the costume should be tried out for comfort and ease of movement. Having the wearer present or getting exact measurements beforehand will go a long way towards ensuring an energetic mascot.

How To Get A D1 Athletic Scholarship

Monday, November 2nd, 2009
by Coach Chris Berg

It was a game between Crespi and St.Bonaventure last Friday. I was with a friend watching the game. The story he shared with me was stunningly inspiring and I have never come across another great recruiting story like it. It really changed my perception about the college recruiting process and how one can win in this abstract process of recruiting.

It happened in Southern California where my friend came across a STUD RB back who was not a top prospect with college coaches. Not a fault of the coaches because they were just browsing through his credentials like height, weight, etc. and they had no understanding of his most important accessory, that is his laser-like focus.

They had not seen any film on the kid, so they just assumed based on his paper variables that he couldn’t play at their school. Well, my buddy started working with him on how to get his name out there; they started putting together a highlight video, putting it online and emailing coaches. One of the key components to his story is that when he would email coaches, he would use a UNIQUE subject line in his email…for example:

SUBJECT: “I am the Running Back YOU need”…; “Running Back to help YOUR program”; “CA Star RB to help your program”

The intention of the player was to arouse the interests of the coaches to open the mail sent by him and read it. The email would persuade them to watch the online video so they could begin recruiting him.

He started linking the online video profile to his signature on his emails, at least a few of the coaches would click to view his profile.

In other words, this young lad knew the trick of the trade that he had to do a PR job by suitably empowering his recruiting campaign with PR components. He also got in touch with important people at Scout.com and tried to promote himself. When the hype around him heated up, he succeeded in getting his first offer. Within a few weeks, the number of offers went up to 8 D1 offers. He utilized the first offer for revisiting the other coaches in whom the first offer triggered considerable interest.

The general mentality of human beings is to want to have what is difficult for them to have. This promptly made the coaches extend their offers to this players. Later, when he traveled to North Carolina, he informed all the coaches of all the major universities in the State that he was available to stop by their school. He showed them his profile on the video. When his family drove around the major colleges of North Carolina, the results were amazing. By the end of the evening, he had four offers on his lap.

The tips that can be derived from this story for going from 0 - 8 D1 offers are:

1. Focus on what you want. It should become an obsession in you. You must take suitable and purposeful action for achieving this in life. “Action” is the six-letter word that fires your rocket to reach your goal.

2. PROMOTE, PROMOTE, PROMOTE - this is YOUR PR campaign

3. You should ensure that people watch your profile video and hence it is better to carry DVD’s with you. Treat your DVD’s like your business card.
